Experiments with stencils

Stencils was the theme for Tag Tuesday this week. You can see my tag here in an earlier post. I found that once I started playing around with my wild flowers and butterflies stencil, that I wanted to go on experimenting. I have tried different media and background papers.

Some old sheet music made an interesting background.

I used acrylic paint, which was a bit patchy, but it might work better with a  watercolour wash over the top.

I have used tissue paper and watercolour here.

This is a negative stencil, done on a gelli plate, using metallic acrylic. I don't think this is effective, but might look brighter combined with another colour or with further layers of paper .

Tag Tuesday-Silhouettes

Our theme on Tag Tuesday this week is Silhouettes

For my Silhouettes tag, I have used a stencil of a night scene,
which is on a gelli printed background.

Sunflower 2

Sunflower 2, my second commission for a client is finished! I printed the background on a gelli plate, stamped on a sunflower design and embellished with embroidery and buttons. It was bound with a ribbon and mounted  and displayed in a pale pine frame. The finished piece measures 6"x6".

Sunflower

I have just finished my first commissioned stitched picture, of a sunflower. The background is printed on a gelli plate, then stamped and the petals were embroidered in layers. The middle is made from beads of three colours.

Tag Tuesday-Egypt

EGYPT is the theme for this week's Tag Tuesday.
For this week's tag I have gone for hieroglyphics spelling out  EGYPT.
 The symbols are as follows:-
E a reed
G pedestal for a jar
Y two reeds
P stool seen from above
T loaf

The hieroglyphics were surprisingly difficult to draw, I think I need more practice to be a scribe! I put them onto a gelli plate background and made a frame with simple Egyptian style patterns.
